Barr South designated Site Certified Silver

GREENFIELD, IND. — Local officials gathered Tuesday to celebrate the designation of Greenfield’s Barr South as an Indiana Site Certified (ISC) Silver tier status.

It’s one of two Greenfield sites owned by the Barr family receiving the certification. Barr North received certification in July.

“The City of Greenfield is fortunate to have great citizen land owners who see great value in doing the things necessary to prepare sites for development,” said Greenfield Mayor Chuck Fewell. “The Barr family is an asset and we certainly appreciate their contributions to our economic development efforts.”

The ISC program, through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, validates sites that are ready for economic development.  The program consists of three tiers of readiness: Silver, Gold and Prime.

“The State of Indiana and OCRA created this program to partner with communities who are working to further opportunities for attracting businesses to grow their local economies,” said OCRA Executive Director Bill Konyha. “This is the sixth site in Greenfield to be Indiana Site Certified, which goes to show just how dedicated they are to economic development.”

According to the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, achieving the Silver tier means the site defines boundaries with a clear title, has an established price, demonstrates executive level local government support and defines utility capacity and distance. The site has also provided documentation such as Phase I environmental assessment, ALTA, topographical and property layout.

“It is a real pleasure to live and work in forward-thinking communities like Greenfield and all of Hancock County,” said Hancock Economic Development Council president Steven Long. “This additional shovel-ready site prepares us for the ever-expanding growth opportunities coming our way.”

3.Mr. Stu Barr thanks Mr. Nolan “Skip” Kuker, Executive Director, HEDC, for his assistance with the two Barr Sites, North and South.
