Greenfield site Certified Silver

Greenfield, IN

Indianapolis – The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) announces that Greenfield’s Barr North has achieved Indiana Site Certified (ISC) Silver.

The Indiana Site Certified program endorses sites that are ready for economic development. By certifying a site, it illustrates that the community is committed to economic growth, mitigates risks for businesses who want to locate or expand their operations into Indiana and it serves as a marketing tool to promote sites that are ready for development.

“Each time a community secures site certified status it demonstrates its commitment to supporting the creation of economic and employment opportunities for its people and businesses,” said OCRA Executive Director Bill Konyha.

Greenfield’s Barr North site is spread out over 96 acres and is served with low-cost municipal utility services with several motels and restaurants nearby to serve the local workforce. Barr North is conveniently located less than five miles from I-70 and less than ten miles from an airport. This site is one of two that are family-owned by the Barr family, with the second site being Greenfield’s Barr South (also achieving certification later this month). Barr North and Barr South mark the fifth and sixth Indiana Site Certified properties in Greenfield.

“What a great asset the Barr North and Barr South properties will make for our city to offer to prospective clients searching for property to develop,” said Mayor Chuck Fewell, City of Greenfield. “Having Silver status with the Site Certified property available only enhances Greenfield’s chances for success.”

The Indiana Site Certified program consists of three tiers of readiness: Silver, Gold and Prime. Barr North achieving the Silver tier means the site defines boundaries with a clear title, establishes a price, demonstrates executive level local government support and defines utility capacity and distance. It also means that the site has provided documentation such as Phase I environmental assessment, ALTA, topographical and property layout.

Indiana Site Certified is led by OCRA in partnership with the state’s Fast Access Site Team (FAST), comprised ofmultiple state agencies including the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC).

Communities of any size may apply for the designation through OCRA. Applications for certification are accepted on a rolling basis. The first step is to contact your regionally based OCRA Community Liaison who will be able to offer current program details, evaluate readiness to proceed and provide application instructions.
